Custom Julz for Orange County Museum

Last month I sent off some very exciting pieces to the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, CA. The custom artwork and jewelry that I was asked to design and create coincide with their current exhibit Birth of Cool. The exhibit examines California Art, Design, and Culture at Midcentury which encompasses the painting, architecture, furniture design, decorative and graphic arts, film, and music that launched midcentury modernism in the United States and established Los Angeles as a major American cultural center. I feel honored to be even a small part of the greatness exhibited in this show!

My new view

I rearranged my office and I love my new view of the outside world. I can see the birds flying, cute little squirrels running across the power lines, colorful leaves falling, and people going about their business on the street ahead. I'm happy!

photo update

While my mom was here two of my favorite things that we did were waking up at 5am to go fishing and visiting the beach. We have a huge pear tree in our backyard and pears are falling daily. They are so juicy! I never new how good a pear could be. In Portland and need some pears? We've made several meals involving pears in the past week! Spinach, Pear + Avacado Salad, Pear + Gorgonzola Pizza (we also added caramelized onions and mozarella) and a pear pie. Figs from the tree in our yard are going to be ready in a few weeks too. I feel so lucky that we didn't even know what surprises would be arriving for us during the summer when we moved in! These flowers sprouted in our yard too. And finally, I've been getting ready for Bumbershoot which is NEXT WEEKEND! This is the first time that my products alone will be filling a 10 x 10 booth. I'm so excited! Here are a few pictures of things that I have been creating. The kitties are still doing terrific too!

camping

After a busy week of playing catch up, it was nice to get out of the city with a group of our friends for camping! We were along the Columbia River Gorge a little over 1/2 hour from our house. The view from our site was amazing. We were in the trees with a great view of the river. We could also hear the train running almost every hour which was a nice sound with nothing else around. I saw a shooting star too. Those always make me smile! My mom is arriving for a visit tomorrow which I am really excited about! I'm going to put her to work! heehee We'll take her to see fun stuff too.

Surprises

I forgot to post these yesterday. A few surprises we found in our yard when we arrived home. Tomatoes! It is so fun to go out in our backyard and pick some of the yummiest tomatoes that I've ever tasted. I am constantly surprised by all of the different flowers here in portland. In the one week that we were gone this succulent grew upward and then flowered. So beautiful I had to share!

Colorado vacation

I've just returned from a week long vacation in Frisco, Colorado. We were there for Brian's family reunion. I had a really great time meeting all of his family and learning the history of the Nally's. The scenery was also unbelieveable. I think one of my favorite times during the trip was riding the ski lift in breckenridge up to about 11,000 feet and then hiking up another 2,000 feet to find snow for brian's nephew. There were so many colorful wildflowers on the hike up. We finally found snow, but had to hurry back down because of a storm that was coming our way. We did make time for a snowman though!

I can't believe I haven't mentioned this! I was so excited to see it was posted. I got a really nice write up in the Portland Mercury's fashion blog MOD:Mercury on DesignI love everything about the article that Leanne wrote. She even mentioned the summer deals that I have going on throughout the summer. And I am in love with her clothing line - Leanimal. You can see her 2007 spring, summer + fall collections online. I have never seen so many unique and really surprising details. These 2 are my favorites!

It's Monday!

It was a fun and exhausting weekend with the 2 shows. We had our friends Cara + Kelly in town all last week so that might have had something to do with the being tired part too! We did alot of exploring while they were here. I love this picture of Cara + I at Netarts Bay. And me and my love! CRAFTY WONDERLAND was a lot of fun yesterday! I introduced a new item that I have been working on and it was a success! It's a pin that in a way reminds me of a merit badge. I've created them using my images and varying fabric and ribbons for each pin. I can't wait to make more!

Winedango + Crafty Wonderland

I'm happy to be participating in 2 events this weekend. I'll be selling my jewelry of course...but I've also been working on a few other things to add to the mix! Come say HI if you're in Portland!

SATURDAY, JULY 7 WINEDANGO at Urban Wineworks, 1-5.

I am super duper excited about the adult snowcones and really nice jazz by 12th Avenue Hot Club. It should be a fantastic afternoon! IT'S FREE and it's going to be a nice day! (the event is outside) Here is the official write-up below.

*** Get your "django" on at Winedango, a great way to spend your Saturday afternoons in July (1-5 PM). Listen to D'jango style jazz by The Twelfth Avenue Hot Club. Have fun making a tie-dyed T-shirt when you buy three bottles of Bishop Creek Cellars wine. Meet local artisans and save room for adult snowcones. ***

SUNDAY, JULY 8 CRAFTY WONDERLAND at Doug Fir Lounge, 11-4.

IT'S FREE too and they always have a fun free DIY table! You can see the other vendors participating too!

Berries!

Today brian and I went to pick berries. It was the first time I have really spent that much time picking berries...I guess because I have never been around so many at once. We picked strawberries + blackberries + raspberries + blueberries and there were more berries that we didn't take home with us. Here are a few pics of us showing off our berries! Strawberries + Raspberries A beautiful view of Mt. Hood I didn't know blueberries grew on trees? I think we ended up with over 10 lbs of berries! It was a fun few hours at Kruger's Farm As for the berries, we plan on making lots of smoothies + a blueberry pie for july 4. I'll post the recipe for that this week!
